Big Bottom CCD Washington Income Charts

This section shows the Big Bottom CCD Washington economy using the most recent economic analysis from the 2019 Census Bureau. Starting with Figure 1 which shows the median earnings per worker, Big Bottom CCD shows it has a median earnings per worker of $46,141 which is the second most median earnings of all the places in the greater Big Bottom CCD region. The place with the highest median earnings per worker in the area is Alder CDP which depicts a median earnings of $66,159 (43.4% larger). Comparing median earnings per worker to the United States average of $47,712, Big Bottom CCD is only about 3.4% smaller. Also, compared to the state of Washington, median earnings per worker of $54,615, Big Bottom CCD is about 18.4% smaller.

In Figure 2 a more complete view of income is shown which aggregates income from all members in the household and it has a median household income of $39,284 which is the third most median income of all other places in the greater Big Bottom CCD region. The place with the highest median household income in the area is Alder CDP which shows a median income of $132,629 (approximately 3.4 times bigger). Comparing median household income to the United States average of $60,293, Big Bottom CCD is approximately three-fourths the size. Also, in comparison with the state of Washington, median household income of $70,116, Big Bottom CCD is approximately half the size.

The next section examines a variety of different income statistics for the Big Bottom CCD metropolitan area. In Figure 3 we see that it it has the largest proportion of earnings less than $10,000 at 16.8% of the total and is ranked #1. Second, it has one of the largest proportions of earnings between $10,000 and $14,999 at 6.1% of the total and is ranked #3. Only #2 Mineral CDP (12.2%), and #1 Packwood CDP (40.3%) are larger. Third, it has the largest proportion of earnings between $75,000 and $99,999 at 4.2% of the total and is ranked #1. Also, it has one of the largest proportions of earnings of $100,000 more at 5.3% of the total and is ranked #2. The only larger place being Alder CDP with 10.6%.

Figure 5 has the Average number of hours worked in a typical work week during the year, it has an average hours of 36.6 which is the second most average hours of all the places in the greater Big Bottom CCD region. The place with the highest average hours in the area is Morton which depicts an average hours of 38.8 (6.0% larger). Dividing median annual worker earnings by the average number of hours worked in a year in Figure 6 shows that it has an average hourly earnings of $24.24 which is the most of all places in the greater Big Bottom CCD region. Comparing average hourly earnings to the United States average of $23.71, Big Bottom CCD is only slightly larger. Also, versus the state of Washington, average hourly earnings of $27.28, Big Bottom CCD is about 12.5% smaller.

Figure 7 examines the number of self employed people in the Big Bottom CCD metro area based on the number of people who reported any self employment income. Big Bottom CCD depicts it has a percentage of people self employed of 9.2% which is the second most people self employed of all the places in the greater Big Bottom CCD region. The place with the highest percentage of people self employed in the area is Packwood CDP which shows a percentage self employed of 19.0% (about twice as large).

Turning our attention to Figure 8, the median household income by age group, it has the largest proportion of median income-25 to 44 years at $55,750 of the total and is ranked #1. Second, it has one of the largest proportions of median income-45 to 64 years at $47,083 of the total and is ranked #2. The only larger place being Morton with $58,906. Third, it has one of the largest proportions of median income-65 years and over at $32,162 of the total and is ranked #3. Only #2 Packwood CDP ($32,457), and #1 Morton ($40,469) are larger.

Figure 9 breaks down the source of income and Big Bottom CCD has one of the largest proportions of income from wages at 51.1% of the total and is ranked #3. Only #2 Morton (58.6%), and #1 Alder CDP (100.0%) are larger. Second, it has the largest proportion of self employment income at 5.1% of the total and is ranked #1. Third, it has less than most other places in the greater region when ranked by social security at 21.7% of the total. Also, it has the largest proportion of public assistance and ssi at 2.8% of the total and is ranked #1.

The next chart (Figure 11) shows the percentage of households that had retirement income over the last 12 months and it has a households with retirement income of 30.4% which is the third most households with retirement income of all other places in the greater Big Bottom CCD region. The place with the highest households with retirement income in the area is Packwood CDP which depicts a households with retirement income of 40.5% (33.5% larger).

In the next chart, Figure 12, the median family income is shown for families broken down by racial group and it has one of the largest proportions of overall family income at $44,286 of the total and is ranked #3. Only #2 Mineral CDP ($83,393), and #1 Alder CDP ($132,629) are larger. Second, it has one of the largest proportions of white family income at $45,185 of the total and is ranked #2. The only larger place being Mineral CDP with $83,393.

Figure 13 shows the cost of living and other consumer spending categories for a variety of cost components from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Big Bottom CCD shows it has the hightest cost of 117.1 for the cost of healthcare classification.

Big Bottom CCD Washington Labor Force Charts

The next two charts look at very recent, monthly trended employment related performance using data estimated by economists at the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The BLS tracks unemployment statistics for a large number of areas throughout the country on a month to month basis. However, not every location in the U.S. is tracked by the BLS so the chart will only show the closest location available (which may be the same location.) Figure 14 shows the monthly unemployment rate for the area as well as a comparison to the overall national economy measure for the United States. Note that in March to April 2020, the Covid 19 recession or great recession occurred and affects this metric. It shows that from February 2010 to before the disasterous COVID-19 Pandemic the monthly unemployment rate went from 10.7% to 4.0% in December 2019. This represents a decrease in the monthly unemployment rate of 62.6%. Since that time, the monthly unemployment rate has gone to 4.0% This represents an increase in the monthly unemployment rate of very little. In Figure 15 the monthly labor force participation which are people actively looking for work are also defined as unemployed but do not include people who have given up looking for work. It depicts that from January 2010 to before the disasterous Coronavirus Pandemic the monthly labor force participation went from 20,497 to 23,247 in November 2019. This represents an increase in the monthly labor force participation of 13.4%. Since that time, the monthly labor force participation has gone to 23,247 This represents an increase in the monthly labor force participation of very little.

The next two charts look at the annual unemployment rate/eligible for unemployment benefits and is based on the American Community survey. Figure 16 shows Big Bottom CCD shows it has an unemployment rate of 1.5% which is the third most unemployment rate of all other places in the greater Big Bottom CCD region. The place with the highest unemployment rate in the area is Morton which shows a rate of 4.6% (approximately 3.1 times bigger). Figure 17 shows the labor force participation using the estimated percentage of people either working or actively looking for work. Big Bottom CCD depicts it has a participation rate of 38.8% which is in the mid range of other places in the local area.

The Components of Employment Status graph in Figure 18 shows the composition of the labor force broken down by employed, unemployed, and not in the labor force (but 16 years of age or older). Big Bottom CCD has the percentage of not in labor force in the center range of other places in the surrounding region at 61.2% of the total.

The percentage of full-time workers are compared to the number of part-time workers in Figure 19. Big Bottom CCD shows full time employees approximately 2.6 times bigger as the part time employees.

The next employment related data item is shown in Figure 21 which is the percentage of families with only a single earner in the greater Big Bottom CCD area. Big Bottom CCD shows it has a families with a single earner of 28.0% which is the third most of all other places in the greater region. The place with the highest families with a single earner in the area is Mineral CDP which depicts a single earners rate of 55.0% (about twice as large). The percentage of families with no one working is depicted in Figure 22. Big Bottom CCD depicts it has a families with no one working of 40.2% which is the second most families with no one working of all the places in the greater Big Bottom CCD region. The place with the highest families with no one working in the area is Packwood CDP which shows a families with no worker of 91.2% (approximately 2.3 times bigger).

Big Bottom CCD Washington Poverty Charts

The next section details economy analysis about poverty for residents of the Big Bottom CCD community. This performance can be enhanced by government programs such as economic opportunity zone to influence manufacturing, job growth, economic opportunity an hopefully lead to economic recovery after the recent Covid 19 recession. In Figure 23 the total number of people earning less than the poverty level are shown. Big Bottom CCD depicts it has a total people earning less than the poverty level of 152 which is the largest of all places in the local area.

In Figure 24 the percentage of people earning less than the poverty level is shown and compared across the group of places. Big Bottom CCD depicts it has a percent of people earning less than the poverty level of 6.9% which is less than most other places in the greater region. The place with the highest percent of people earning less than the poverty level in the area is Ashford CDP which depicts a percent of people in poverty of 60.2% ( considerably bigger).

In Figure 25 people who are in poverty are broken out by age group. Big Bottom CCD has one of the largest proportions of person in poverty under 12 years at 22% of the total and is ranked #2. The only larger place being Packwood CDP with 49%. Second, it has the largest proportion of person in poverty 12 to 17 years at 9% of the total and is ranked #1. Third, it has one of the largest proportions of person in poverty 35 to 54 years at 16% of the total and is ranked #2. The only larger place being Morton with 25%.

The next chart, Figure 26, shows the percentage of people in poverty by racial group. Big Bottom CCD has the percentage of white poverty rate less than most other places in the greater region at 7% of the total.

Figure 27 shows key poverty statistics for groups based on marriage status. Big Bottom CCD has one of the largest proportions of unmarried with children and in poverty at 44% of the total and is ranked #2. The only larger place being Packwood CDP with 100%. Second, it has one of the largest proportions of unmarried female with children and in poverty at 82% of the total and is ranked #2. The only larger place being Packwood CDP with 100%.

The next chart looks at the percentage of people in poverty based on their education level in Figure 28 marriage status. Big Bottom CCD has the percentage of less than highschool in poverty in the middle range of other places in the local area at 6% of the total. Second, it has in the intermediate range of other places in the metro area when sorted by highschool graduate and in poverty at 2% of the total. Figure 29 looks at only those people who make less than the poverty level of income and breaks down there employment status. Big Bottom CCD has one of the largest proportions of people who are in poverty and employed at 19.1% of the total and is ranked #2. The only larger place being Packwood CDP with 41.4%. Second, it has one of the largest proportions of people who are in poverty and not in labor force at 27.6% of the total and is ranked #3. Only #2 Morton (28.3%), and #1 Mineral CDP (46.8%) are larger. Additionally, Figure 30 looks at the percentage of people who receive some form of public assistance including general assistance, temporary assistance or food stamps (i.e. SNAP.) Big Bottom CCD shows it has a households with public assistance of 16.2% which is the third most of all other places in the metro area. The place with the highest households with public assistance in the area is Mineral CDP which depicts a households with public assistance of 35.8% (approximately 2.2 times bigger).

Figure 31 shows the "Gini Index of Income Inequality" with a range from zero (perfect equality) to one (perfect inequality). Big Bottom CCD shows it has a the gini index of 36.4% which is the third most the gini index of all other places in the greater Big Bottom CCD region.

Big Bottom CCD Washington Work Commute Charts

The following set of charts detail a variety of metrics that have economic impact, economic grow factors and economic development metrics in the Big Bottom CCD community and has an impact on other factors such as economic growth, population growth, economic recovery, job growth, etc.. Figure 32 shows a high level view of how the population commutes to work (including the percent of people who work from home.) Big Bottom CCD has the largest proportion of people who work at home at 5% of the total and is ranked #1. Figure 33 shows a more detailed view of how the population commutes to work for (for example to downtown Big Bottom CCD or elsewhere.) Big Bottom CCD has the percentage of people who drove alone in the mid range of other places in the local area at 72% of the total. Second, it has the largest proportion of people who bike at 4% of the total and is ranked #1. Third, it has the largest proportion of people who work at home at 5% of the total and is ranked #1.

In Figure 35 is shown a frequency distribution of the time that people leave for work. Big Bottom CCD has one of the largest proportions of people who leave for work between 12am to 5am at 27% of the total and is ranked #2. The only larger place being Alder CDP with 33%. Second, it has one of the largest proportions of people who leave for work between 5am to 530am at 8% of the total and is ranked #2. The only larger place being Packwood CDP with 10%. Third, it has one of the largest proportions of people who leave for work between 6am to 630am at 3% of the total and is ranked #3. Only #2 Alder CDP (37%), and #1 Mineral CDP (68%) are larger. Also, it has the largest proportion of people who leave for work between 730 am to 8am at 18% of the total and is ranked #1.

The next graph in Figure 36 shows the average number of minutes that it takes for people to commute to work. Big Bottom CCD has one of the largest proportions of people with commute time of less than 5 minutesutes at 24% of the total and is ranked #2. The only larger place being Morton with 34%. Second, it has one of the largest proportions of people with commute time between 5 to 9 minutes at 19% of the total and is ranked #3. Only #2 Morton (24%), and #1 Packwood CDP (47%) are larger. Third, it has the largest proportion of people with commute time between 25 to 29 minutes at 10% of the total and is ranked #1. Also, it has the largest proportion of people with commute time between 40 to 44 minutes at 5% of the total and is ranked #1. In addition, it has less than most other places in the area when ranked by people with commute time between 45 to 59 minutes at 4% of the total. Furthermore, it has in the center range of other places in the greater region when ranked by people with commute time between 60 to 89 minutes at 5% of the total. Next it has one of the largest proportions of people with commute time of 90 or more minutesutes at 8% of the total and is ranked #3. Only #2 Alder CDP (33%), and #1 Mineral CDP (60%) are larger.

The average commute time is shown in Figure 37. Big Bottom CCD depicts it has an average commute time of 25 which is the largest of all places in the metro area. Figure 38 shows the difference between male versus female commuting time. Big Bottom CCD depicts average commute time in minutes for men approximately 2.6 times bigger as the average commute time in minutes for women. Figure 40 shows the total number of vehicles available for transportation and Big Bottom CCD has one of the largest proportions of no vehicle available at 3% of the total and is ranked #2. The only larger place being Morton with 3%. Second, it has one of the largest proportions of 1 vehicle available at 13% of the total and is ranked #2. The only larger place being Morton with 21%. Third, it has in the mid range of other places in the local area as measured by 2 vehicles available at 37% of the total. Also, it has the largest proportion of 3 vehicles available at 34% of the total and is ranked #1. In addition, it has in the mid point range of other places in the area when ranked by 4 vehicles available at 13% of the total.

Big Bottom CCD Washington Jobs Charts

The next to charts break out the median earnings for major job categories for men and women. Figure 46 shows the median earnings of men for the job categories. Big Bottom CCD shows it has the hightest median earnings of $72,875 for the earnings-production, transportation, material moving occupations aggregate. Similarly, Figure 47 shows the median earnings of women for the job categories and Big Bottom CCD depicts it has the hightest median earnings of $48,798 for the earnings-sales and office occupations group. The table in Figure 48, shows Big Bottom CCD employment data in terms of job categories and salary data.

Big Bottom CCD Washington Self Employment Charts

Figure 49 shows economic activity in terms of the number of people who are self employed in incorporated local business by industry. Big Bottom CCD depicts it has the hightest entrepreneurs of 62% for the self employed management, business, science, and arts businesses grouping.

Similar to the last chart is Figure 50 which shows the number of people who are self employed but in more detailed industry categories such as manufacturing, retail sales, residential real estate, commercial real estate, health care, exports/imports, and advanced industries, etc. Big Bottom CCD depicts it has the hightest entrepreneurs of 62% for the self employed in educational services, health care and social assistance category.

In Figure 51 the average annual self employment/entrepreneur income is shown. Big Bottom CCD depicts it has an average annual self employment income of $28,087 which is ranked #1 of all places in the greater Big Bottom CCD region. Comparing average annual self employment income to the United States average of $37,819, Big Bottom CCD is approximately three-fourths the size. Also, in comparison with the state of Washington, average annual self employment income of $37,669, Big Bottom CCD is approximately three-fourths the size.

Figure 52 shows the difference between the number of self employed men and self employed women (i.e. entrepreneurs.) Big Bottom CCD shows total number of self-employed men approximately three-fourths the size as the total number of self-employed women.
