According to the most recent Hoboken New Jersey demographics data available from the 2022 Census Bureau released in the American Community Survey in November of 2022, Figure 1 Hoboken depicts it has a Population 2021 of 59,369 which is the third most populous of all other places in the greater Hoboken region. The city with the highest population in the area is Jersey City which depicts a population of 287,146 (approximately 4.8 times bigger). Figure 3 uses the Hoboken population data for a comparison of the population growth/population change estimates from the years 2010 to 2021 and Hoboken New Jersey shows an increase of 9,364 (19%).
The total Hoboken New Jersey greater area population percent change for all areas for the years from 2010 to 2021 is shown in Figure 4 and for Hoboken depicts it has a Population Change of 18.7% which is the second most population percent change of all the places in the greater Hoboken region.
Looking at the Hoboken population density (measured as people per square mile) and providing comparisons to both the national and state average population density in Figure 5, Hoboken New Jersey depicts it has 47,118 people per square mile which is in the mid point range of other places in the metro area. The next higher when sorted by population density is West New York 12.0% larger with population density of 52,770. The city with the highest population density in the area is Guttenberg which shows a people per square mile of 60,621 (28.7% larger). Figure 6 provides Hoboken demographics for the overall median age for all people in the region and Hoboken shows it has a Median Age of 32.0 which is the smallest as measured by overall median age of all people of all the other places in the greater region. The city with the highest overall median age of all people in the area is Secaucus which depicts an age of 39.7 (24.1% larger).
The next demographic analysis (Figure 7) looks at large generational Hoboken population groups (and can be useful internet research for employment related research or identifying areas with retirees). Key findings in this chart includes that Hoboken New Jersey has the largest proportion of people less than 20 years of age at 25.1% of the total and is ranked #1. Second, it has the largest proportion of people between 20 and 29 years old at 28.9% of the total and is ranked #1. Third, it has the smallest proportion of people between 30 and 39 years old at 12.0% of the total. Also, it has the smallest proportion of people between 40 and 49 years old at 8.0% of the total. In addition, it has the smallest proportion of people between 50 and 59 yeasr old at 4.9% of the total. Furthermore, it has the smallest proportion of people between 60 and 69 years old at 4.2% of the total.
Figure 8 illustrates the overall diversity breakdown for Hoboken population and ethnicity groups in the area. (note: Hispanic/Latino is broken out separately in the next diagram and also the group denoted as Native ethnicity includes Native American, and Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander.) Hoboken New Jersey has the smallest proportion of Native population at 10.6% of the total. Figure 9 shows the Hoboken New Jersey Hispanic (including non Hispanic whites) population household ethnicity in the region and Hoboken depicts it has a Hispanic or Latino of 15.4% which is the smallest in order of people who are Hispanic or Latino of all the other places in the metro area.
Hoboken New Jersey Families and Marital Status Charts
Figure 10 shows the detailed marriage characteristics broken down by %residents who are married, never married, single, divorced, and widowed. Hoboken has the largest proportion of total percent married at 51% of the total and is ranked #1. Second, it has the smallest proportion of never married percent at 5% of the total. Third, it has the smallest proportion of percent divorced at 2% of the total. Figure 11 compares the average household size using the average number of people in a family for Hoboken households. Hoboken depicts it has a Family Size of 2.7 which is the smallest when ranked by average family size of all the other places in the metro area. The city with the highest average family size in the area is Union City which depicts an average family size of 3.4 (22.9% larger).
Looking at Hoboken households that are headed by a husband and wife as a percent of all families in Figure 12, Hoboken depicts it has a Married-couple family of 79% which is more than all other places in the greater Hoboken region.
The next section of charts provide a detailed look at mothers and baby births that occurred over the past 12 months. Figure 13 shows the rate of women aged 15 to 50 years old who have given birth. Hoboken depicts it has a Birth Rate of 5.2% which is less than most other places in the greater region. The city with the highest percent of women who gave birth in the area is West New York which shows a birth rate of 5.6% (8.3% larger). Figure 14 shows the breakdown of the mother's age for all baby births that occurred in the last 12 months and has the percentage of percent of births to mothers aged 20 to 24 the second smallest when ranked by percent of births to mothers aged 15 to 19 of all the other places in the metro area at 1% of the total. Second, it has the largest proportion of percent of births to mothers aged 30 to 34 at 41% of the total and is ranked #1. Third, it has one of the largest proportions of percent of births to mothers aged 35 to 39 at 12% of the total and is ranked #2. The only larger city being Secaucus with 15%.
The next set of demographic data looks at the marital status for Hoboken households which is useful for internet research. Figure 16 compares the total number of single people in each area. Hoboken depicts it has a Total Single People of 58% which is more than all other places in the greater Hoboken region. Comparing percent of people who are single for any reason to the United States average of 50%, Hoboken is 16.6% larger. Also, compared to the state of New Jersey, percent of people who are single for any reason of 49%, Hoboken is 20.2% larger.
Hoboken New Jersey Citizenship Demographics Charts
The next section of demographic information provides detailed data Hoboken residents including: immigrants, citizenship, immigration, country of origin, non citizens and more. To start, Figure 17 shows a high level view of citizenship. Hoboken New Jersey has the smallest proportion of citizens born In US at 8% of the total. Second, it has the smallest proportion of citizens by naturalization at 11% of the total. The next diagram (Figure 18) shows the year of entry that non citizens entered the United States. The year of entry can show the rate of flow at various points of time in the past for when they entered the U.S. has the smallest proportion of non citizens who entered the US between 1990 to 1999 at 3% of the total. Second, it has the smallest proportion of non citizens who entered the US before 1990 at 4% of the total.
