According to the most recent Sunfish Lake Minnesota demographics data available from the 2022 Census Bureau released in the American Community Survey in November of 2022, Figure 1 Sunfish Lake shows it has a Population 2021 of 576 which is the second smallest in order of population of all the other places in the local area. The city with the highest population in the area is Inver Grove Heights which shows a population of 35,539 ( very much bigger). Figure 3 uses the Sunfish Lake population data for a comparison of the population growth/population change estimates from the years 2010 to 2021 and Sunfish Lake Minnesota depicts an increase of 55 (11%).
The total Sunfish Lake Minnesota greater area population percent change for all areas for the years from 2010 to 2021 is shown in Figure 4 and for Sunfish Lake shows it has a Population Change of 10.6% which is the second most population percent change of all the places in the greater Sunfish Lake region.
Looking at the Sunfish Lake population density (measured as people per square mile) and providing comparisons to both the national and state average population density in Figure 5, Sunfish Lake Minnesota shows it has 380 people per square mile which is the smallest in terms of population density of all the other places in the greater region. The next higher in order of population density is Mendota 37.5% larger with population density of 523. The city with the highest population density in the area is West St Paul which shows a people per square mile of 4,167 ( considerably bigger). Figure 6 provides Sunfish Lake demographics for the overall median age for all people in the region and Sunfish Lake shows it has a Median Age of 46.8 which is the second most median age of all the places in the greater Sunfish Lake region. The city with the highest overall median age of all people in the area is Lilydale which shows an age of 73.5 (57.1% larger).
The next demographic analysis (Figure 7) looks at large generational Sunfish Lake population groups (and can be useful internet research for employment related research or identifying areas with retirees). Key findings in this chart includes that Sunfish Lake Minnesota has the largest proportion of people between 40 and 49 years old at 18.8% of the total and is ranked #1. Second, it has in the center range of other places in the local area when ranked by people between 60 and 69 years old at 13.0% of the total.
Figure 8 illustrates the overall diversity breakdown for Sunfish Lake population and ethnicity groups in the area. (note: Hispanic/Latino is broken out separately in the next diagram and also the group denoted as Native ethnicity includes Native American, and Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander.) Sunfish Lake Minnesota has the largest proportion of Black population at 4.0% of the total and is ranked #1. Second, it has the largest proportion of Asian population at 0.9% of the total and is ranked #1. Third, it has the second smallest when sorted by people who are white of all the other places in the metropolitan area when sorted by Native population at 4.5% of the total. Figure 9 shows the Sunfish Lake Minnesota Hispanic (including non Hispanic whites) population household ethnicity in the region and Sunfish Lake shows it has a Hispanic or Latino of 2.6% which is less than most other places in the metro area.
Sunfish Lake Minnesota Families and Marital Status Charts
Figure 10 shows the detailed marriage characteristics broken down by %residents who are married, never married, single, divorced, and widowed. Sunfish Lake has the smallest proportion of never married percent at 2% of the total. Second, it has the second smallest as measured by total percent of people married of all the other places in the local area when ranked by percent divorced at 2% of the total. Figure 11 compares the average household size using the average number of people in a family for Sunfish Lake households. Sunfish Lake shows it has a Family Size of 3.3 which is more than all other places in the greater Sunfish Lake region.
Looking at Sunfish Lake households that are headed by a husband and wife as a percent of all families in Figure 12, Sunfish Lake shows it has a Married-couple family of 93% which is the highest of all places in the greater Sunfish Lake region.
The next section of charts provide a detailed look at mothers and baby births that occurred over the past 12 months. Figure 13 shows the rate of women aged 15 to 50 years old who have given birth. Sunfish Lake shows it has a Birth Rate of 1.9% which is the smallest as measured by percent of women who gave birth of all the other places in the greater region. The city with the highest percent of women who gave birth in the area is Mendota which depicts a birth rate of 10.3% ( markedly bigger). Figure 14 shows the breakdown of the mother's age for all baby births that occurred in the last 12 months and it has the largest proportion of percent of births to mothers aged 25 to 29 at 100% of the total and is ranked #1.
The next set of demographic data looks at the marital status for Sunfish Lake households which is useful for internet research. Figure 16 compares the total number of single people in each area. Sunfish Lake shows it has a Total Single People of 27% which is the smallest when ranked by percent of people who are single for any reason of all the other places in the local area. The city with the highest percent of people who are single for any reason in the area is West St Paul which shows a percent single of 56% (about twice as large). Comparing percent of people who are single for any reason to the United States average of 50%, Sunfish Lake is approximately half the size. Also, compared with the state of Minnesota, percent of people who are single for any reason of 48%, Sunfish Lake is approximately half the size.
Sunfish Lake Minnesota Citizenship Demographics Charts

To start, Figure 17 shows a high level view of citizenship. Sunfish Lake Minnesota has the largest proportion of citizens born In US at 5% of the total and is ranked #1. The next diagram (Figure 18) shows the year of entry that non citizens entered the United States. The year of entry can show the rate of flow at various points of time in the past for when they entered the U.S. it has one of the largest proportions of non citizens who entered the US before 1990 at 22% of the total and is ranked #2. The only larger city being Mendota Heights with 24%.
