According to the most recent Aitkin Minnesota demographics data available from the 2022 Census Bureau released in the American Community Survey in November of 2022, Figure 1 Aitkin depicts it has a Population 2021 of 2,126 which is the second most populous of all the places in the greater Aitkin region. The city with the highest population in the area is Crosby which shows a population of 2,677 (25.9% larger). Figure 3 uses the Aitkin population data for a comparison of the population growth/population change estimates from the years 2010 to 2021 and Aitkin Minnesota depicts a decline of 39 (2%).
The total Aitkin Minnesota greater area population percent change for all areas for the years from 2010 to 2021 is shown in Figure 4 and for Aitkin depicts it has a Population Change of -1.8% which is the second smallest in order of population percent change of all the other places in the metro area.
Looking at the Aitkin population density (measured as people per square mile) and providing comparisons to both the national and state average population density in Figure 5, Aitkin Minnesota depicts it has 964 people per square mile which is the highest of all places in the greater Aitkin region. The next lower population density is Crosby about 6.8% smaller with population density of 902. Figure 6 provides Aitkin demographics for the overall median age for all people in the region and Aitkin shows it has a Median Age of 45.5 which is the third most of all other places in the greater region. The city with the highest overall median age of all people in the area is Cuyuna which depicts an age of 58.4 (28.4% larger).
The next demographic analysis (Figure 7) looks at large generational Aitkin population groups (and can be useful internet research for employment related research or identifying areas with retirees). Key findings in this chart includes that Aitkin Minnesota has the largest proportion of people between 60 and 69 years old at 25.4% of the total and is ranked #1. Figure 9 shows the Aitkin Minnesota Hispanic (including non Hispanic whites) population household ethnicity in the region and Aitkin shows it has a Hispanic or Latino of 0.9% which is in the center range of other places in the metro area.

Figure 10 shows the detailed marriage characteristics broken down by %residents who are married, never married, single, divorced, and widowed. Aitkin has the largest proportion of percent divorced at 16% of the total and is ranked #1. Figure 11 compares the average household size using the average number of people in a family for Aitkin households. Aitkin shows it has a Family Size of 3.6 which is the second most average family size of all the places in the greater Aitkin region. The city with the highest average family size in the area is Deerwood which shows an average family size of 3.8 (only about 5.3% larger).
Looking at Aitkin households that are headed by a husband and wife as a percent of all families in Figure 12, Aitkin shows it has a Married-couple family of 66% which is in the middle range of other places in the metropolitan area. The city with the highest percent of people in a husband and wife family in the area is Palisade which shows a husband and wife family percent of 89% (35.9% larger).
The next section of charts provide a detailed look at mothers and baby births that occurred over the past 12 months. Figure 13 shows the rate of women aged 15 to 50 years old who have given birth. Aitkin shows it has a Birth Rate of 6.7% which is the third most percent of women who have given birth of all other places in the greater Aitkin region. The city with the highest percent of women who gave birth in the area is Cuyuna which depicts a birth rate of 23.1% (approximately 3.5 times bigger). Figure 14 shows the breakdown of the mother's age for all baby births that occurred in the last 12 months and it has one of the largest proportions of percent of births to mothers aged 20 to 24 at 58% of the total and is ranked #2. The only larger city being Ironton with 100%. Second, it has the largest proportion of percent of births to mothers aged 30 to 34 at 17% of the total and is ranked #1. Third, it has the largest proportion of percent of births to mothers aged 35 to 39 at 25% of the total and is ranked #1.
The next set of demographic data looks at the marital status for Aitkin households which is useful for internet research. Figure 16 compares the total number of single people in each area. Aitkin depicts it has a Total Single People of 60% which is the second most percent single people of all the places in the greater Aitkin region. The city with the highest percent of people who are single for any reason in the area is Deerwood which depicts a percent single of 62% (only about 2.6% larger). Comparing percent of people who are single for any reason to the United States average of 50%, Aitkin is 20.0% larger. Also, in comparison with the state of Minnesota, percent of people who are single for any reason of 48%, Aitkin is 26.1% larger.

The next section of demographic information provides detailed data Aitkin residents including: immigrants, citizenship, immigration, country of origin, non citizens and more. To start, Figure 17 shows a high level view of citizenship. Aitkin Minnesota has the largest proportion of citizens born In US at 1% of the total and is ranked #1. Second, it has the largest proportion of citizens by naturalization at 1% of the total and is ranked #1. The next diagram (Figure 18) shows the year of entry that non citizens entered the United States. The year of entry can show the rate of flow at various points of time in the past for when they entered the U.S. it has the largest proportion of non citizens who entered the US after 2010 at 100% of the total and is ranked #1.
