This section shows the economic outlook and local economy using the most recent economic data from the 2017 Census Bureau. Starting with Figure 1 which shows the median earnings per worker. Comparing average hourly earnings to the United States average of $22.37, Washburn township compares as approximately three-fourths the size. Also, measured against the state of Arkansas, average hourly earnings of $17.91, Washburn township is about 7.5% smaller.

The city with the highest households with retirement income in the area is Six Mile township with a households with retirement income of 33.8% is about twice as large.

In the next chart, Figure 12, the median family income is shown for families broken down by racial group and it has the largest proportion of Overall Family Income at $69,167 of the total and is ranked #1. Second, it has the largest proportion of White Family Income at $69,167 of the total and is ranked #1.

Figure 13 shows the cost of living for a variety of cost components from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Washburn township illustrates it has hightest cost of 92.5 for Cost of grocery items.

The next two charts look at very recent, monthly trended employment related performance using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The BLS tracks unemployment statistics for a large number of areas throughout the country on a month to month basis. However, not every location in the U.S. is tracked by the BLS so the chart will only show the closest location available (which may be the same location.) Figure 14 shows the monthly unemployment rate for the area as well as a comparison to the overall measure for the United States. It indicates that from January 2010 to July 2018 the Monthly Unemployment Rate went from 8.9% to 3.6%. This represents a decrease in the Monthly Unemployment Rate of 59.6%. In Figure 15 the monthly labor force participation which are people actively looking for work are also defined as unemployed but do not include people who have given up looking for work. The participation level It indicates that from March 2010 to May 2018 the Monthly Labor Force Participation went from 40,885 to 39,285. This represents a decrease in the Monthly Labor Force Participation of 3.9%. Figure 17 shows the labor force participation using the estimated percentage of people either working or actively looking for work. Washburn township shows it has 63.0% participation rate which is the 2nd most of all the places in the area.

The Components of Employment Status graph in Figure 18 shows the composition of the labor force broken down by employed, unemployed, and not in the labor force (but 16 years of age or older). Washburn township has the largest proportion of employed at 63.0% of the total and is ranked #1.

The percentage of full-time workers are compared to the number of part-time workers in Figure 19. Washburn township shows full time employees is approximately 3.2 times bigger than part time employees.

The next chart looks at the percentage of people in poverty based on their education level in Figure 28 marriage status. Washburn township has the largest proportion of college graduate and in poverty at 14% of the total and is ranked #1. Additionally, Figure 30 looks at the percentage of people who receive some form of public assistance including general assistance, temporary assistance or food stamps (i.e. SNAP.) We can see that Washburn township shows it has 5.7% households with public assistance which is the 4th smallest households with public assistance of all the other places in the area. The city with the highest households with public assistance in the area is Ratcliff with a households with public assistance of 27.0% measures approximately 4.8 times bigger.

Figure 31 shows the "Gini Index of Income Inequality" with a range from zero (perfect equality) to one (perfect inequality). Washburn township indicates it has 41.2% the Gini Index which is the 4th smallest the Gini Index of all the other places in the area.

Similar to the last chart is Figure 50 which shows the number of people who are self employed but in more detailed industry categories. Washburn township indicates it has hightest entrepreneurs of 65% for self employed in finance, insurance, real estate, rental and leasing.

In Figure 51 the average annual self employment income is shown. Washburn township illustrates it has $40,508 average annual self employment income which is the 4th in average annual self employment income out of 10 total in the area. The city with the highest average annual self employment income in the area is Six Mile township with an average annual self employment income of $73,219 is about twice as large. Comparing average annual self employment income to the United States average of $35,396, Washburn township is 14.4% larger. Also, versus the state of Arkansas, average annual self employment income of $30,721, Washburn township compares as 31.9% larger.
