Big Flat Arkansas Income Charts

This section shows the economic outlook and local economy using the most recent economic data from the 2016 Census Bureau. Starting with Figure 1 which shows the median earnings per worker. Big Flat shows it has $46,750 median earnings which is the 2nd most of all the places in the area. The city with the highest median earnings in the area is Farris township with an earnings of $60,288 measures 29.0% larger. Comparing median earnings to the United States average of $44,172, Big Flat is only about 5.8% larger. Also, in contrast to the state of Arkansas, median earnings of $36,268, Big Flat is 28.9% larger.

The next section examines a variety of different income statistics. In Figure 3 we see that it has one of the largest proportions of median earnings between $10,000 and $14,999 at 11.1% of the total and is ranked #3. Only #2 Locust Grove township (15.5%), and #1 Roasting Ear township (26.9%) are larger. Second, it has the largest proportion of median earnings between $50,000 and $74,999 at 25.9% of the total and is ranked #1. Also, it has the largest proportion of median earnings of $100,000 or more at 25.9% of the total and is ranked #1.

Figure 5 has the Average number of hours worked in a typical work week during the year, it has 44.1 average hours which is the most of all placesin the area. Dividing median annual worker earnings by the average number of hours worked in a year in Figure 6 shows that it has $20.39 average hourly earnings which is the 2nd most of all the places in the area. The city with the highest average hourly earnings in the area is Farris township with an average hourly earnings of $34.10 is 67.3% larger. Comparing average hourly earnings to the United States average of $22.06, Big Flat is about 8.2% smaller. Also, compared with the state of Arkansas, average hourly earnings of $17.75, Big Flat is 14.9% larger.

Figure 7 examines the number of self employed people in the area based on the number of people who reported any self employment income. Big Flat indicates it has 34.6% Self Employed which is the largest of all placesin the area.

In terms of the source of where income comes from, in Figure 9 Big Flat has the largest proportion of self employment income at 53.7% of the total and is ranked #1. Second, it has one of the largest proportions of investment and retirement income at 15.7% of the total and is ranked #2. The only larger city being Roasting Ear township with 28.8%.

The next chart (Figure 11) shows the percentage of households that had retirement income over the last 12 months and it has 26.9% households with retirement income which is the 2nd most of all the places in the area. The city with the highest households with retirement income in the area is Farris township with a households with retirement income of 30.8% is 14.3% larger.

Figure 13 shows the cost of living for a variety of cost components from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Big Flat shows it has cost of 99.4 for Transportation.

Big Flat Arkansas Labor Force Charts

The next two charts look at very recent, monthly trended employment related performance using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The BLS tracks unemployment statistics for a large number of areas throughout the country on a month to month basis. However, not every location in the U.S. is tracked by the BLS so the chart will only show the closest location available (which may be the same location.) Figure 14 shows the monthly unemployment rate for the area as well as a comparison to the overall measure for the United States. It indicates that from January 2010 to October 2017 the Monthly Unemployment Rate went from 8.4% to 2.8%. This represents a decrease in the Monthly Unemployment Rate of 66.7%. In Figure 15 the monthly labor force participation which are people actively looking for work are also defined as unemployed but do not include people who have given up looking for work. The participation level It indicates that from March 2010 to September 2017 the Monthly Labor Force Participation went from 31,444 to 33,796. This represents an increase in the Monthly Labor Force Participation of 7.5%.

The next two charts look at the annual unemployment rate and is based on the American Community survey. Figure 16 shows Big Flat indicates it has 5.0% unemployment rate which is the 3d most of all other places in the area. The city with the highest unemployment rate in the area is Matney township with a rate of 25.3% is considerably bigger. Figure 17 shows the labor force participation using the estimated percentage of people either working or actively looking for work. Big Flat illustrates it has 60.0% participation rate which is the 2nd most of all the places in the area.

The Components of Employment Status graph in Figure 18 shows the composition of the labor force broken down by employed, unemployed, and not in the labor force (but 16 years of age or older). Big Flat has the largest proportion of employed at 55.0% of the total and is ranked #1. The percentage of families with no one working is depicted in Figure 22. Big Flat shows it has 25.0% families with no one working which is the 4th in families with no one working out of 10 total in the area. The city with the highest families with no one working in the area is Matney township with a families with no worker of 100.0% measures 4 times bigger.

Big Flat Arkansas Poverty Charts

The next section details information about poverty in the area. In Figure 23 the total number of people earning less than the poverty level are shown. Big Flat reveals it has 10 total people earning less than the poverty level which is the 5th in total people earning less than the poverty level out of 10 total in the area. The city with the highest total people earning less than the poverty level in the area is Rock Creek township with a total people earning less than the poverty level of 295 is considerably bigger.

In Figure 24 the percentage of people earning less than the poverty level is shown and compared across the group of places. Big Flat shows it has 16.9% percent of people earning less than the poverty level which is the 5th in percent of people earning less than the poverty level out of 10 total in the area. The city with the highest percent of people earning less than the poverty level in the area is Matney township with a percent of people in poverty of 81.0% is approximately 4.8 times bigger.

In Figure 25 people who are in poverty are broken out by age group. Big Flat has the largest proportion of person in poverty Under 12 Years at 40% of the total and is ranked #1. Second, it has one of the largest proportions of person in poverty 12 to 17 years at 10% of the total and is ranked #2. The only larger city being Matney township with 32%. Also, it has one of the largest proportions of person in poverty 18 to 34 years at 20% of the total and is ranked #2. The only larger city being Locust Grove township with 41%. In addition, it has one of the largest proportions of person in poverty 35 to 54 years at 30% of the total and is ranked #2. The only larger city being Matney township with 68%.

Figure 27 shows key poverty statistics for groups based on marriage status. Big Flat has one of the largest proportions of Married with children and in poverty at 26% of the total and is ranked #2. The only larger city being Rock Creek township with 71%. Figure 29 looks at only those people who make less than the poverty level of income and breaks down there employment status. We see that Big Flat has one of the largest proportions of people who are in poverty and employed at 20.0% of the total and is ranked #3. Only #2 Matney township (36.7%), and #1 Locust Grove township (40.6%) are larger. Additionally, Figure 30 looks at the percentage of people who receive some form of public assistance including general assistance, temporary assistance or food stamps (i.e. SNAP.) We can see that Big Flat demonstrates it has 11.5% households with public assistance which is the 5th in households with public assistance out of 10 total in the area. The city with the highest households with public assistance in the area is Matney township with a households with public assistance of 77.0% measures markedly bigger.

Figure 31 shows the "Gini Index of Income Inequality" with a range from zero (perfect equality) to one (perfect inequality). Big Flat shows it has 49.9% the Gini Index which is the 2nd most of all the places in the area.

Big Flat Arkansas Work Commute Charts

Figure 32 shows a high level view of how people get to work (including the percent of people who work from home.) Big Flat has people who drive a car or motorcycle to work less than most other places in the area at 86% of the total and is ranked 3d last in the group. Second, it has the largest proportion of people who bicycle or walk to work at 14% of the total and is ranked #1. Figure 33 shows a more detailed view of how people get to work for this location and shows Big Flat has one of the largest proportions of people who drove alone at 86% of the total and is ranked #3. Only #2 Big Flat township (94%), and #1 Locust Grove township (100%) are larger. Second, it has the largest proportion of people who walked at 14% of the total and is ranked #1.

In Figure 35 is shown a frequency distribution of the time that people leave for work. Big Flat has the largest proportion of people who leave for work between 5am to 530am at 23% of the total and is ranked #1. Second, it has the largest proportion of people who leave for work between 7am to 730am at 64% of the total and is ranked #1.

The next graph in Figure 36 shows the average number of minutes that it takes for people to commute to work. Big Flat has the largest proportion of people with commute time between 5 to 9 minutes at 32% of the total and is ranked #1. Second, it has one of the largest proportions of people with commute time between 30 to 34 minutes at 27% of the total and is ranked #3. Only #2 Farris township (33%), and #1 Roasting Ear township (54%) are larger. Also, it has the largest proportion of people with commute time between 35 to 39 minutes at 23% of the total and is ranked #1. In addition, it has the largest proportion of people with commute time between 40 to 44 minutes at 9% of the total and is ranked #1.

The average commute time is shown in Figure 37. Big Flat shows it has 28 average commute time which is the 4th in average commute time out of 10 total in the area. Figure 38 shows the difference between male versus female commuting time and Big Flat indicates average commute time in minutes for men measures 17.5% larger than average commute time in minutes for women. Figure 40 shows the total number of vehicles available for transportation and Big Flat has the largest proportion of No vehicle available at 23% of the total and is ranked #1. Second, it has one of the largest proportions of 1 vehicle available at 18% of the total and is ranked #2. The only larger city being Locust Grove township with 37%. Also, it has the largest proportion of 5 or more vehicles available at 41% of the total and is ranked #1. Figure 41 shows the percentage of people who both work and live in the same city (town or place.) Big Flat illustrates it has 18% people who both work and live in the same city which is the highest of all placesin the area. Comparing people who both work and live in the same city to the United States average of 42%, Big Flat is approximately half the size. Also, compared to the state of Arkansas, people who both work and live in the same city of 52%, Big Flat is approximately a third the size.

Big Flat Arkansas Self Employment Charts

In Figure 51 the average annual self employment income is shown. Big Flat illustrates it has $127,189 average annual self employment income which is more than all other placesin the area. Comparing average annual self employment income to the United States average of $34,642, Big Flat is approximately 3.7 times bigger. Also, in comparison with the state of Arkansas, average annual self employment income of $29,262, Big Flat measures approximately 4.3 times bigger.
